Rihanna flew home to her native Barbados to attend her beloved grandmother's funeral. The singer toned down her usually edgy style on Tuesday as she gathered with her family to mourn her grandmother, whopassed away earlier this month after losing a battle with cancer.

According to The Daily Mail, Rihanna had previously attended a memorial service for her GranGranDolly, as she called her, real name Clara Braithwaite, in Brooklyn, New York, last Friday before playing the Wireless Festival in the U.K. over the weekend.

Rihanna attended GranGranDolly's funeral Tuesday wearing a black dress, beehive-like hairdo and flat black pumps with chain ankle straps,tweeting a makeup-free photo of herself drinking a beer with the message, "I had to!!! Sorry granny."

Days prior, as she was heading home to pay her final respects, she tweeted, "#grangranDOLLY time for your party in Barbados." She also tweeted a handwritten note for her late grandmother, which read, "#grangrandolly you are going to have the best party today. #allblackerrthang! and I'm gon' try to hold it all in, try to hold back my tears."

At the time of her grandmother's passing, Rihanna received an outpouring of love from her Navy, but also got support from her ex Chris Brown. "Praying for family and the lost loved one. She was like my grandmother. Love you GRAN GRAN! RIP," he tweeted.

Rihanna was at Sweden's Peace & Love music festival when she found out about her grandmother's passing. During her set, the singer appeared visibly shaken, and it wasn't until after the performance that fans learned why.

Dolly, along with her "GranDad," Lionel, have frequently served as anchors for the superstar. "Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you," she shared around the time Dolly died.
